Whittemore's roots have been traced back to 1919, at which time the Company was a distributor for feed, coal, and grain. In 1949 Whittemore installed the third known operating Perlite furnace in the United States and divested themselves of the other activities and focused on Perlite Manufacturing. Over the last fifty years, Whittemore has seen tremendous growth and the business has expanded into Vermiculite processing, custom blending, and contract packaging.
